I could only listen to three minutes of this. I got all misty-eyed when he started talking about the soap box and the ballot box being the bastions of democracy. Then he had to go and use the phrase "un-American."
That's when I realized that what he's saying about the tea party protests is exactly what liberals were saying at the time of the anti-war protests when the US invaded Iraq.
At that time, the anti-war protesters were treated as anti patriotic, anti American, pro terrorism. the protesters were actually put in the position of defending their right to free speech. Ironic, isn't it? The people defending the right to complain about taxes today are the same people who called anti-war protesters un-American for dissenting.
I began listening, and I did listen, until around the 2:40 mark when he used that term and turned his whole thing into a divisive, political rant. He's not talking about defending everyone's right to free speech.
Unfortunately, I had to miss everything after 3:00 because in my eyes he's exactly the same as any cable news jockey. And I don't listen to them, either. So if I missed something important, sorry.

Many of the same people came out for both protests, HIS POINT being that once Fox piggy-backed on top of this, the meaning of the original impetus for the protests were lost.
Which you would have realized had you followed the thought to its conclusion.
Trouble is, you have bipolar political syndrom which makes you unable to see that the monster has two heads...

American Politics is our largest embarrassment to the world. That he begins his spiel saying it "isn't about losing an election in November" tells me "it's about losing an election in November".
Election winners spend all their time telling us why things are improving (even if they're not), and election losers spend all their time telling us why things are going to the Sh*thole because we voted against them (even if they're not).
The truth of the matter is, both sides of our political aisle are filled with disgusting scum. Most aren't that way when they go in, but one cannot work in a cesspool long before one begins to stink like everyone else.
Protests are a joke. I thought so in the 1960s and I think so today. But freedom of speech and expression should never be squelched for any reason in this country. Whether I agree with it or not.

You also missed the point. It starts out by saying that because Fox News piggy-backed themselves onto a protest THAT WAS ABOUT SPENDING!!!
It was a protest to stop Washington from looting tax payers to give Billions to buddies who lost billions after making Billions.
American Politics IS embarrassing because, obviously, Americans are its participants...
Pete, I could only read the first three sentences of your comment. Sorry if I missed something important. Ha. Ha. Kidding.
Not that it matters, but this guy ripped the Bush admin, voted for Obama, holds anyone's and everyone's feet to the fire if they misconstrue facts. It doesn't make what he says any more true or false, but whatever. We hear what we want to hear.
Scott's right, it's not about paying taxes. It's about government spending. It's about not prosecuting the fraud. It's about a lot of other things that WILL eventually have to be paid for by higher taxes or inflation or both or bankruptcy.
I sort of agree with Bevie in that protesting doesn't have much of a direct effect. But politicians do keep tabs on sentiment. The teabag symbol was stupid from beginning. It's not tradition or heritage or any of that. It's unoriginal copycat BS that only confuses the issue. It's about as dumb and/or meaningful as colored ribbons or those silly ass rubber band bracelets people wear.
There are more than two sides, but we've had that discussion before.
I'm not surprised at the emotional knee-jerk reaction, but I don't see how you can draw conclusions by deliberately not listening to two-thirds of what someone says.
And it's not bastions of democracy (which the US is not anyway). It's boxes of freedom. If we're going to have a hissy fit over one word, let's not be lazy with the rest.
knew it was a mistake to chime in on something political. Every few weeks I swear off politics like dieters swear off chocolate. This time it's for real.

Not to sound picky, but I missed nothing. I've been around long enough to recognize political talk when I hear it. Attack my message, if you will. But leave me alone, thank you very much.
The most well-attended of the "Tea Parties" was here in my state, and it was not well-attended. BT is right: It was copycat BS and never had a chance of making an impact.
Politicians do keep their thumb on sentiment. But demonstrations don't reveal it.
We haven't hit bottom yet (as a society). When we finally do things will begin to improve.
The problem with tea in America, is you guys don't make the water hot enough. For black tea, the water need to be boiling. For green tea, you're OK with it being just hot.
This is about tea, right?

Sorry, Scott. I'm not going to watch anything blind. It feels like being set up. If you have a point to make, you make it. I may not agree with you, but I won't criticize you for having your opinion. You and I live in different places. It only makes sense we would see the elephant differently.
