I think they discovered a similar thing in cave drawings, forty thousand years earlier. What the Tacitus piece does not reference (but should) is the op-ed from Phallus Enormous of the same period. In it, he describes the cave paintings and decries the usurers for being short-sighted and not reading their obscure ancient history well enough.
Didn't know the concept of 'credit' for housing extended back that far, historically. I'm kind of relieved and sad at the same time that this isn't a mainly American kind of stupidity and frothy greed.

Yes, that Phallus Enormous was a dispenser of great wisdom.
Or something.

I'm not sure which is funnier - the post or these comments.
PE seems to have been forgotten by time it seems. Probably extinction played a role in that. ;-)
Scott, they'll keep blasting him over and over because he makes them all look stupid, which they are.
By the way, Denninger's going ape shit over China possibly devaluing their currency by a rumored 30% -

First, the hockey sticks post which I assumed would be phallic in nature.
Now, Silly Romans, which I assumed would include statues of naked people.
Wow. Just read this, and I'm amazed. Truly.
